Castell Safety - Trapped Key Safety Interlocks, Lockout Tagout Equipment and Drive-away PreventionCastellApplications

Applications - Valving - Relief Valve Changeover System

Product Usage: MBV

System Requirement

The client needed to ensure that one of the process lines was operational at all times, including maintenance periods. The scenario provided allowed for both process lines to be open but never both closed, ensuring that a build up of pressure at the pressure vessel could never occur, The client alsso demanded that the process could only be carried out under a 'Permit to Work' scheme.

Condition 1

Process line 1 operational with all valves locked open, line 2 valves all locked closed with the process control key held in the control room. To initiate a line changeover sequence the operative reports to the control room to obtain a permit to work certificate, on issue, the operator is issued the Castell 'A' Key.

Condition 2

The Castell 'A' Key is inserted into valve '2A' interlock. Insertion of the key allows the valve to be operated from the closed to open position, With the valve open, the Castell 'B' Key can be removed, locking the valve open. The 'B' Key is then taken and inserted into valve '2B'. Insertion of the key allows the valve to be operated from the closed to open position. With the valve open, the Castell 'C' Key can be removed, locking the valve open. At this stage both lines are open. Key 'C' is transferred to valve '1C'. The Castell 'C' Key is inserted into valve '1C' interlock. Insertion of the key allows the valve to be operated from the open to closed position. With the valve closed, the Castell 'D' Key can be removed, locking the valve closed. The 'D' Key is then taken and inserted into valve '1D'. Insertion of the key allows the valve to be operated from the open to closed position. With the valve closed, the Castell 'E' Key can be removed, locking the valve closed. Key 'E' is returned to the control room.
